Omar left work at five o’clock. The sky was dark, and the was heavy. He opened his black and walked to the .
Many people there. Some people looked tired. Some people looked cold. Omar saw an old man without an umbrella. The man held a newspaper over his head.
Omar and said, “You can stand with me.” The old man smiled. “Thank you,” he said. They stood together under the umbrella and watched the road.
The bus came after ten minutes. It was full, but a young woman gave her to the old man. Omar stood near the door and held the wet umbrella carefully.
At the next stop, the rain became light. The old man talked about his garden. Omar talked about his small balcony plants. They both liked tomatoes and yellow flowers.
When Omar got off the bus, the old man . “See you next rainy day,” he said. Omar laughed. The trip was slow, but it felt friendly and warm.
The next week, Omar saw the old man again. This time, the sky was bright, and nobody needed an umbrella. The old man was carrying a small paper bag with tomato seeds inside. He gave the bag to Omar and said, “For your balcony plants.”
Omar planted the seeds in a small pot near his kitchen window. He did not know much about plants, so he read the words on the bag very slowly. Add soil. Add water. Keep in the sun. The instructions were simple, and Omar followed them.
For a few days, nothing happened. Then one morning, he saw tiny green leaves. Omar took a photo and showed it to the old man on the bus. The old man smiled like a teacher who sees a student do well.
After that, the bus ride felt different. It was still crowded sometimes, and the rain still came, but Omar knew one person on the bus. A small act with an umbrella had become a small friendship.
Omar began to notice more people on his way home. There was a student with a green backpack, a woman with a red coat, and a driver who always said good evening. Before, the bus was only transport. Now it felt like a small moving street.
One rainy Thursday, Omar forgot his umbrella at work. He stood at the bus stop and tried to stay dry under the roof. Then the old man arrived and opened a blue umbrella. “Today you can stand with me,” he said.
Omar laughed because kindness had come back to him. The rain still made his shoes wet, but he did not feel cold. He had learned that a small help can return in a new shape.
On the last rainy day of the month, Omar brought two small tomato plants to the bus stop. He gave one to the old man. They both laughed because their friendship now had roots, leaves, and a little green hope.
